Body, Mind and Actions

Whether educated or illiterate, poor or rich, married or unmarried all are striving for enrichment of our lives. Our pursuit of a better and happier life leads us to reading self-development books, attend various spiritual classes, do yoga and the like. Yes, self-development books and spiritual discourses will impart plethora of life-centric teachings. However, how many of us honestly practice them? We very often find us telling ourselves, “Let me start tomorrow”. This tomorrow will never come! Rather than having ten to-dos on the list and being unable to decide where and how to start, let us practice one basic thing to enrich our lives and that is DISCIPLINE! In today’s fast-paced world a lot of tasks can be done at the click of a button, yet we feel 24 hours is insufficient for our day-to-day activities. A little more discipline in life will take us to the gates of a ‘successful and happy life’.

Discipline is all we need to have a smooth life. We should take control of our lives by disciplining our body and mind. An individual who is disciplined from within will lead life as per his mind and social rules rather than paying much heed to peer pressure or botheration to unwarranted worldly demands. There will be times when discipline may warrant us to do things that are extremely challenging. That’s when we need to keep our focus on the end result and remind ourselves that whatever we are doing through the aid of discipline will only facilitate us to accomplish our goal. An individual’s life is just a miniscule period (when compared to the existence of the universe) consisting of around 7 to 8 decades.

The eight powers

You can't always change situations. You can never change other people. The only thing you can change is yourself. The eight powers of Raja Yoga are always available to help you in every situation that you will face in life. With self-transformation as your goal, your life will be a great journey of discovery. You will discover how to cope with every challenge and how to live well in every situation.
  • the power to withdraw is the ability to step back and disengage from the world around you
  • the power to pack up is the ability to bring things to an end and to stop wasteful thinking
  • the power to accommodate is the ability to expand and accept the presence, ideas and desires of others.
  • the power to discriminate is the ability to discern the subtle, and separate what is true from what is false.
  • the power of judgment is the ability to assess the quality of choices, decisions and actions in yourself and in others.
  • the power to face is the ability to confront and resolve external and internal obstacles, tests and challenges.
  • the power to co-operate is the ability to give attention, time, experience and wisdom in the service of others and to work alongside them.
  • the power to tolerate is the ability to respond to external and internal events positively, yet not be affected by them.

You can think of yourself as a superhero, who has been given eight powers. As you learn how to use your powers, they become stronger in you. Just like any superhero, you learn the skill of applying the right power at the right time and in the right situation.

Get Rid of Morning Sickness

Several factors can contribute to morning sickness and below are techniques to get rid of this nausea in the morning.

1. Lemon

a) If you are feeling nauseous, mix one teaspoon each of lemon juice and mint juice with one-half teaspoon of ginger juice and one tablespoon of honey. Have this mixture two to three times a day.
c) Squeeze a fresh lemon and mix the juice with a glass of water. Drink it every morning to prevent nausea.

2. Ginger

a) You can make ginger tea by adding one-half teaspoon of powdered ginger to a cup of boiling water. Let it steep for 10 minutes and then strain it. Sip the tea slowly.
b) Sucking a small piece of ginger or chewing a ginger candy can also give quick relief from nausea.

3. Water

a) Try to drink eight to 10 glasses of water daily.
b) If you do not like drinking water, you can eat fruits and vegetables that are high in water content, such as melons, carrots, tomatoes, celery, grapes, apples, squash, pears, and oranges. You can also treat yourself to frozen fruit bars to keep your body hydrated.
